Sacramento Bee to voters: "Please vote for Prop 1A and bail out the inept politicians who created the budget mess"

The Sacramento Bee is asking voters to vote for Prop 1A in the special election May 19th.
Like many Californians, we are deeply dissatisfied with the Legislature's mismanagement of this state's finances. Years of dysfunction, discord and partisan polarization have led to perpetual deficits that have been an embarrassment to the state and an impediment to economic growth for most of this decade.

Members of the Legislature have demonstrated that they cannot restrain themselves when economic times are good, and they cannot manage the fallout when times are bad. That's why we are supporting Proposition 1A.

Once the state digs itself out of this mess – and someday it will – the long-term spending reform in this measure will help prevent California from descending into such an abyss again.

Click here to see the rest.

The Bee does a good job diagnosing the problem -- politicians who aren't serious about solving the state's budget deficit -- but the Bee's solution doesn't address the problem. A YES vote takes the heat off the big-spending politicians. A NO vote will send a shock wave across the state capitol and force politicians to get serious or (hopefully) leave office by defeat at election time.

It's not my job to accommodate the politicians who created the mess.

I agree with the editorial in this paper recommending a NO vote on all propositions.

California politics is nearly as boring as Kansas City's. What is this proposition anyway? You need an editor.

Translation:

Just like our all but bankrupt Marxist newspaper, we fully support our liberal politicians and fellow travelers with their Marxist legislation to finally bankrupt the State of California.

I think the point is that no one outside the state has any idea what he's talking about. That's called a hole in the story. Maybe he's right. Who knows?

If you don't like this thread, mind your own business. There's just something putrid about people who bitch all the time and try and tear down what others have accomplished.

If people want to jump into the journalism and commentary game, they'd better be ready for criticism. After all, this whole blog is about tearing down accomplishments.

What's good the for the goose, etc. etc.

That pretty well describes you.

This blog is about the absence of achievement in the field of journalism. I have no problem praising quality acts of journalism and honoring those who contribute them.

That would be in opposition to cowardly little punks like you who have never contributed anything of value to anyone. Have you ever contemplated suicide?

Gee, it's hard to see why the Republican Party is floundering with charmers like you.

Suicide? Why, aren't you pro-life?

ELITIST NEWSPAPER RAGE, VOTERS STUPID

California's democracy overload
LA Times (Prop 1A)

"Our political elites are burdening the public with too much democracy."

I was merely reaching out. Certainly anyone with as low self-esteem as you trolls must have has surely contemplated ending it all. Indeed, I suspect that many might have even told you that that would be the right choice in your case. Fortunately for you you have stumbled on to a site where the people here can lead you by example to a life where you might even be useful as a human being someday. Just trying to help.

Fun crowd here. I still don't have any idea what Proposition 1A is about.

Anyway, I'm off to slit my wrists ...

Republicans now often call themselves independents. There's more conservatives out there - they just don't go by the same name anymore.

John, this is exactly what you do with the current administration. a lot of folks worked for free out in the streets to get our president elected, easy to blame the media but that is not the whole story.

then you go on to tell folks what this blog is and those that dont agree with you , you call them punks.

You dont have to respond to comments, you dont have to control the conversation.. all you need to do is post your thoughts and move on. let people decide themselves what is worth reading or not. Your a hypocrit john.

MW moderator, don't you think this crosses the line? If it doesn't warrant deletion, at least doesn't it deserve a public or even private rebuke?

It's been in the news for weeks...have you heard of a gadget called Google?

It was a Yes/No question...change your diaper, you'll be ok.

10:26 Let us know how that works out.

10:41 I don't recall ever discussing the current administration on this site. Perhaps a course in reading comprehension.

11:03 I have personally taken on the job of chastising myself. Even as I type my knee is jerking almost spasmodically in utter sympathy and empathy with the putrid little punk. Thank you for bringing this outrage to my attention.

PS, Please note that not one word of my discussion today has been about Kansas City. Instead, I have focused my efforts on raising the self esteem, or at least the mean self esteem of the troll class (enhancing mental health or attrition, either way the numbers look better.) You trolls must be thrilled.

MW moderator's answer apparently is no. After all, suggesting suicide is the type of comment that draws people to a blog, and the more hits, the more ad revenue, right, MW moderator? Oh, wait, Shark Girl thinks that accepting ad revenue automatically makes newspapers and blogs corrupt. Oh, dear, who can a girl trust for her news? Oh, that's right: Twitter.

1:57 the comment won't be deleted. Anybody whose feelings were hurt should contact their therapist immediately.

Thanks for making your position clear, MW. Go ahead, John, say whatever you want. It helps build ad revenue for MW.

John Altevogt said...

If I could afford it, I'd advertise here my self. I guess one just can't extend a helping hand anymore without some cynic wetting their pants.

John Altevogt said...

1:57 I'd like to see the study showing that suggestions of suicide drive ad revenue. If they did, every editor and publisher in the country would be suggesting it to everyone possible.

This is almost as bad as Lewis Diuguid's suggestion that negative diversity would yield negative productivity. Operationalize those concepts if you can. The only thing I could figure out is that Lewis hisself would be an excuse for the former, and an example of the latter.

Gotta love it when libs do research.

This type of unfounded conjecture asserted as fact is one of the reasons newspapers are going under.

Yes, he probably does which is why he said:

Apparently he also recognizes BS when he sees it.
