Bankrupt Tribune gives bonuses after berating AIG

Two months after denouncing a troubled financial company for doling out hefty management bonuses, a bankrupt news media company is doing the same thing.

"Money for nothing?" blared a Chicago Tribune editorial in mid-March, responding to news that American International Group Inc. planned to give $450 million in bonuses to its top executives during a very public federal bailout.

But this week, the Tribune Co. - which owns the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the Baltimore Sun, the Hartford Courant and other dailies, along with 23 TV stations - received permission from a Delaware bankruptcy judge to pay out $13.3 million in bonuses to some 700 local and corporate managers.

The payouts come as $2.7 million in severance pay to 68 employees who lost their jobs last year remains frozen.

All of their reporting ever since then has been essentially adversarial towards non-leftists, and the great dream of each and every one of them has been to find some “scandal” that they can exploit to bring down conservative members of the government.

So journalism has become extremely personal, extremely vindictive, extremely targeted - and virtually always against non-leftwing politicians who are supported by the majority of Americans and reflect and protect American interests.

Since most people already knew the journalistic playbook and knew exactly what they were going to read and knew that it was not news but a print or TV vendetta, it’s not surprising the people stopped wanting to pay for the experience.

I see we have 3 more articles posted to spam the blog. How would we handle this if we were leftists.

From Bill Tammeus blog at The Star:

"Post a comment

Comments are moderated, and will not appear until the author has approved them.

This weblog only allows comments from registered users. To comment, please Sign In."

And from Aaron Barnhart at The Star:

"Comments are moderated, and will not appear until the author has approved them."

What I find funny is that the majority (if not all) of the "long blog SPAM" appears to "favor" the right.

Yet the "right" blames the "left" for posting it.

However, I agree that SOMETHING has to be done about it as it is a waste.

The extraordinary thing about organized homosexuals is how they demonstrate the most vile elements of effeminate spitefulness in their actions, frequently being more repulsively spiteful than the most disgustingly spiteful women.

Yes, the articles are chosen to favor a more conservative perspective, but the goal is to drown the discussion on this blog in spam. Secondly, those that post the spam will on occasion then report the victimized blog for copyright infringement. It's straight out of the leftist playbook.

Interestingly, this is a spin off of Communist tactics when they took over the labor unions. They went to the meetings and prattled on until everyone had left but their folks and then they would vote.

L.A. Times: Costly, Overly Long Trial of Poor, Entrapped, Harmless Dupes Somehow Results in Several Convictions

Here are the first three paragraphs of an L.A. Times article on recent terrorism convictions obtained by the federal government:

After back to back mistrials, five men from one of Miami’s poorest neighborhoods were convicted Tuesday of trying to join with Al Qaeda in plots to topple the Sears Tower in Chicago and bomb government buildings in South Florida.

Though a sixth man was acquitted, federal prosecutors claimed victory in a case that had dragged on for years and cost millions of taxpayer dollars.

Defense lawyers said their clients were harmless dupes entrapped by government informants. They vowed to appeal.

So how do you really feel, L.A. Times editors?

I'm deleting comments that include several paragraphs from other sources.

If you are going to post from another article, fine -- just keep it to a couple of paragraphs and include the link.

The long stuff is clutter, thanks.

Lots of survey stats of interest, but journos might not like them.

APME survey: Newspapers fear effects of cutbacks
By MICHAEL LIEDTKE
AP Business Writer

“Thirty-one percent said their personnel didn't have the skills to change with the times.”

“Other editors are reminding their reporters and photographers that they are fortunate to still have their jobs after so many of their colleagues have been ushered out the door.

"Aren't we lucky to continue doing what we love while others are forced to leave the industry?" wrote Eric Petermann… "This is gut-check time. Our `new reality' is a time of separation.Love what you are doing, and be the best, or find a job as a PR flack."

Short interest numbers for MNI are in while covering continues:

Short interest 9,020,517
Avg Volume 730,540
DTC 12.35

This represents an over 6 million share decline over the previous 2 week period, the largest drop in short interest on record for McClatchy.

So much for MNI's recent "rally" having anything to do with buying.

No, John, everything isn't a conspiracy against you and those who think like you.

John, John, John-

That is a weak argument. You cannot get in trouble with the plagiarism/copyright police if someone copies your content and pastes it as a "comment".

Now, had Kevin made it a primary post without citation, then yes there could be problems.

I tend to think that it is just a poor misguided sole that cannot read and that you think is a lefty because SURELY one of "yours" would never be that stupid.

John Altevogt said...

Here, I've corrected the typos in your post.

"I tend to think that it is just a poor misguided sole that cannot read and is a lefty because SURELY one of "yours" would never be that stupid."

Gotcha, I think we have consensus.

"Soul," not "sole."

And reinstall the "you think" to be accurate. Just because you think something is true, John, doesn't make it true.

Hey, don't tell me about the soul vs sole. I just did a cut and paste and cleaned up a couple of typos, I didn't do anything with the spelling. I can't correct all of the blunders you libs make.

Anonymous said...

You didn't correct anything. You changed my statement to say that you don't "think", that in essence you "know".

Since you are all about providing proof when disagreeing with you, and since you stated it, I would like to know what proof you have that the idiot(s) posting blog SPAM are in fact libs.

The NY Times took FreeRepublic.com, a news aggregate, to court because ‘posters’ were coping their full articles. The Times did not win a monetary amount, but they did force FR to post only a preview of the article and a link. That is the standard rule for most newspapers. They may not enforce the rules on small blogs, but as paid content is being discussed, stricter rules are more than likely in the future. They have a standard letter ready, as McC Watch received a notice from the Miami Herald about a copyrighted photo. It is perhaps prudent to post the title, credit the source, add an excerpt, and the link back to the newspaper. As of yet, that is well accepted, and why ask for problems?

The leftie paid shills on this blog remind me of the drones that stand out in front of businesses having their going out of business sale holding up big signs and looking bored out of their minds.

6:16 (John): You're avoiding 2:52's question.

John Altevogt said...

It's called logic and I'm aware from your posts and your ideology that this is an unfamiliar concept.

Give one reason why a conservative would want to spam this blog and do it damage. Oh, it has to be a rational reason that is also logical.

Please, how stupid do you think we are? That's a rhetorical question. Actually we know the answer to that question and it's one of the reasons we don't buy your POS newspapers.

So hide behind your anonymity and lie through your teeth and go into denial every time we catch you with your lace undies down, but we know the answer.

Bottom line is I don't care if you like the reasoning, or the answer. Again, you arrogant duds aren't in charge anymore.
