from Seth Godin's blog - reminds me of McClatchy and newspapers...

Learning from Singer

At one point, the Singer Corporation had more than 12,000 people working in a single plant. They were selling more than a million sewing machines a year and had hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. By any measure, it was one of the most important manufacturers in America. It was fun while it lasted.

Back then, it was easy to believe that Singer represented everything that was right with our economy, and that our future was intrinsically attached to the company's.

When was the last time you even thought about Singer (or a sewing machine for that matter)?

The cycles are far shorter now than they were during the century that Singer was a shining light for corporate success. More now than ever, success today is no guarantee of success tomorrow.

Sometimes we spend more time than we should defending the old thing, instead of working to take advantage of the new thing. I bet you can list a dozen "critical" industries that will be as relevant to life in 2020 as Singer is to our world today.

The key difference is that back then, managers and shareholders could stall and fumble and wait out the transition until after they retired. Now, it's almost an annual event. Hiding isn't working, and neither is whining. The best marketing strategy is to destroy your industry before your competition does.

Why Ann Arbor Will be the First City to Lose Daily Newspaper (Poynter Online)

I have been wondering for a year now which American city will be first to lose its only daily newspaper. The results are in, and the dubious distinction goes to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where the Newhouse family's Advance will shutter The Ann Arbor News in late July.

The Obama effect-By genuflecting to tyrants, the president made the US a laughingstock. (Jerusalem Post)

By genuflecting to tyrants, the president has made the US an international laughingstock

It took US President Barack Obama eight days to issue a clear statement of support for the millions of pro-freedom demonstrators throughout Iran risking their lives to oppose the tyranny of the mullahs.

And after eight days of vacillating and hedging his bets and so effectively supporting Iranian dictator Ali Khamenei against the multitudes rallying in the streets, Obama's much awaited statement was not particularly forceful.

He offered no American support of any kind for the protesters. Indeed, it is hard to say that in making his statement, the American president was speaking primarily as an American.

THE REAL OBAMA effect on world affairs relates to the US media's unprecedented willingness to abandon the basic responsibilities of a free press in favor of acting as propagandists for the president. From Cooper - who pretends that Obama's unreciprocated open hand to the mullahs is what empowered the protesters - to Newsweek editor Evan Thomas who referred to Obama earlier this month as a "sort of God," without a hint of irony, the US media have mobilized to serve the needs of the president.

Zero's eligibility brecoming an issue at last? How can that be? Our so-called journalists have had years to dig out the facts!
----
-How long till Obama is booted?-
The Daily Star (Oneonta, NY)
by Tom Sears

I'm wondering how long it will be before the word "impeachment" starts being bantered about? The list of reasons to expel Obama keeps getting longer and stronger, and this is only five months into his [reign.]

Everyone knows about his inexperience. His rhetorical abilities made people overlook this weakness. Even his [eligibility to have become president is becoming an issue.]

Death Knell for 'Mainstream' Journalism (The American Thinker)

Print journalism today, and by that I mean daily newspapers, stands at a bloody crossroads.

Those who practice it must come to grips with realities, such as all the whys behind the decline in their readership, thus circulation and advertising revenue, and by all means,...

...not continue to espouse personal agendas, or show slavish favoritism to their ideological pals.

SO THEY ALL SHIFTED OVER TO McCLATCHY?

New All-Time Lows for Both CBS & ABC Evening Newscasts (TVNEWSER)

TVNewser has learned the CBS Evening News has once again set an all-time low last week with 4.89 million Total Viewers and 1.42 million A25-54 viewers. B

ut it was also the lowest (since records began in the 1991-'92 season) for ABC's World News with Charles Gibson.

The Gibson program drew 6.42 million Total Viewers and 1.77 million A25-54 viewers.

OH CHARLIE, JUST DO ANOTHER PALIN STORY HUH?

You’d think Gibson and company might change their ways.

But I think they all (McClatchy too) would rather go under before they ever treat conservatives with an even hand.

Rupert has been taking their devout Marxism to the bank for years and needn’t worry about any competition.

BIAS, CHILLS, MARXISM. NO!

Obama calls on HuffPost for Iran question (Politico)

In a clearly coordinated exchange, President Obama called on the Huffington Post's Nico Pitney near the start of his press conference and requested a question directly from Iran.

[snip]

Reporters typically don’t coordinate their questions for the president before press conferences. And it was a departure from White House protocol by calling on The Huffington Post second, in between the AP and Reuters.

CBS Radio's Mark Knoller, a veteran White House correspondent, said over Twitter it was,

"very unusual that Obama called on Huffington Post second, appearing to know the issue the reporter would ask about."

Press conference? It was a fascist-directed subjugation

At least in the old days, Pravda tried to look objective.

No such effort here. Just old fashioned backroom deals with the press and the kook fringe blogs

Obama would have acted more quickly if the Iranian people were calling for socialism instead of democracy.

Ironic, isn't it, that Iran soon will be more of a democratic society than the USSA?
