Ex-Modesto Bee publisher Lynn Dickerson leaving McClatchy Co.
Bee Staff reports

Lynn Dickerson, a former publisher of The Modesto Bee, is leaving the McClatchy Co. staff effective July 17, the Sacramento-based company said Thursday.

Dickerson has been a vice president of operations since 2006, overseeing 11 McClatchy newspapers in the Southeast and Texas. She joined the company in Modesto in 2000.

“I leave McClatchy with a heart full of gratitude for the many opportunities afforded to me and my family over the last nine years,” Dickerson said. “In spite of the difficulties of the last few years, I feel blessed to have spent my career doing meaningful work in an important industry and for such a good company.”

Gary Pruitt, McClatchy’s chief executive officer, praised Dickerson as a “talented, dedicated and engaging executive” who was an outstanding publisher and important member of the corporate staff.

He said Dickerson’s duties will be divided between the company’s two other operational vice presidents.

“We continue to restructure and transition to a new business model, one that requires us to be smaller and more efficient in every area of the organization,” Pruitt said. “This includes our senior management and corporate offices.”

Second-quarter earnings report for McClatchy is scheduled for today, I believe. Maybe some advance word of the decline got out to shareholders? Get ready for some action today mateys!

Actually, they'll announce second quarter "earnings" on July 21. More like second quarter losses. But you can bet they already know the damage and are working on the best spin.

Obama in Russia.

Former Communists see Obamunism as the future of Communism.

It looks like the KC Scar is not the only sloppy newspaper around, not that it is any consolation, but there is no denying the inferior work from these near corpses, and readers are fed up with this garbage.

Washington Post
Why that's happening: Between early 2005 and mid-2008, the number of full-time WP copy editors dropped from about 75 to 43 through buyouts or voluntary departures, reports Andrew Alexander.

"Gee skipper, It looks like a big storm is whippin' up!"
"It's OK Gilligan, the minnow has fared worse storms. Nothing to be afraid of!"
"But Skipper, where is the rest of the crew?"
"Gilligan...Gilligan...Gilligan...I sent them off in the life boats. We didn't need them! Instead, we can rely on our passengers to help pull us through the storm! After all we do have a smart guy and a millionaire on board!"
"Gee skipper, that's why we call you the skipper!"
