The Web producer is responsible for day-to-day content operations for Kansas.com and affiliated Web sites of The Wichita Eagle. The producer works to package, post, edit and manage content, collaborating across multiple departments of the newsroom and company. This position requires an excellent team player who works constructively with others and can handle multiple responsibilities at once in a fast-paced environment.
You will be working with a highly experienced news team that is energized about the opportunities in a Web-focused newsroom. Our team has driven year-after-year online audience growth by learning new skills and focusing on transforming our culture into a Web-first news operation.
The producer will work with our six-person team to originate content improvements, move news to the site with urgency, identify new opportunities and strategies, and execute longer-term projects consistently. Strong news judgment is a must, as well as writing and editing skills and a deep understanding of the needs and habits of the online news audience. This person is responsible for keeping news fresh on our Web site while also maintaining our company’s standards for quality and accuracy.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, with two to five years’ experience as a digital editor or producer and three to five years’ experience in news reporting or editing. Candidates should have basic producer skills such as HTML and CSS, as well as experience using metrics tools such as Omniture or Google Analytics.
