Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Townhall Meetings (MensNewsDaily.com)

The Democratic Party's strategy for dealing with rapidly growing discontent is clear. Run and hide. With a growing movement of Americans choosing not to remain silent, the normal one-way flow of misinformation and power-grabbing is being interrupted. Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.), for example, has chosen to suspend public meetings on Long Island rather than deal with constituents.

The Prez, The Press, The Pressure
(Washington Post) MEDIA LAP DOGS STOMP FEET AND CRY

In the days before President Obama's last news conference, as the networks weighed whether to give up a chunk of their precious prime time, Rahm Emanuel went straight to the top.

Rather than calling ABC, the White House chief of staff phoned Bob Iger, chief executive of parent company Disney. Instead of contacting NBC, Emanuel went to Jeffrey Immelt, the chief executive of General Electric. He also spoke with Les Moonves, the chief executive of CBS, the company spun off from Viacom.

Whether this amounted to undue pressure or plain old Chicago arm-twisting, Emanuel got results: the fourth hour of lucrative network time for his boss in six months. But network executives have been privately complaining to White House officials that they cannot afford to keep airing these sessions in the current economic downturn.

The networks "absolutely" feel pressured, says Paul Friedman, CBS's senior vice president: "It's an enormous financial cost when the president replaces one of those prime-time hours. The news divisions also have mixed feelings about whether they are being used."
BUT WILLINGLY SUCCUMB

My, my, mt Hmmm... the media never seemed to feel pressured to allow Bush prime time slots. in fact, they refused to carry them. My how times have changed.

The media didn't feel pressured before the election when they gave Dear Leader all the free air time he wanted. Gosh, what's changed?

Geithner Floats Obama’s Next Big Move: A Tax Hike on the Middle Class

(CNSNews.com) - Appearing on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” yesterday, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner floated President Obama’s next big move: a tax increase on middle-class Americans.

Anonymous said...

During the interview, host George Stephanopoulos pointed out to Geithner that the “Congressional Budget Office estimates that your budget will add $9 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.”

It took America over 230 years to reach its first 9 Trillion Dollars of debt. Obama will duplicate that in 4 years.

Andrew Breitbart: On race, 'No, he can't!' (Washington Times)

Well, that was pathetic. And it wasn't an accident. The fix was in from the beginning.

Last week's lackluster "Beer Summit" featuring Sgt. James Crowley, professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., President Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was orchestrated to end a national discussion on race, not begin one. That's why there were no microphones, even though each participant showed himself to be perfectly qualified, astoundingly articulate and camera-ready for an illuminating and much-needed public debate.

The problem for the White House was the more the esteemed professor talked, the more trouble he created for his friend, the president. The clever photo-op sans audio was crafted to yank the director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research off the stage, lest anyone begin to question what is being taught at Harvard these days.

Conversely, the more Sgt. Crowley weighed in, and his brave black co-workers spoke out, the more obvious it became that a national discussion featuring this cast of characters may not end with the results the professor and the president wanted.

Pelosi falls to the back of the pack of speakers (Examiner)

In an era of symbolic breakthroughs, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is closing in on a dubious achievement — being the least effective leader of the House in the modern era.

Since the 1920s, when Speaker Nicholas Longworth rescued the position from a brief period of irrelevancy, the office of speaker has been held by political heavyweights.

The 17 speakers since Longworth have mostly maintained or enhanced the power and prestige of the post, but with a train wreck taking shape in the House, Pelosi may be remembered for diminishing the office.

And when historians inspect the record of the lady from California, they will find that hubris and empty talk sealed her fate.

Pelosi, still confusing status with power, her secret seems to be to always appear with her botoxed smile at it’s joker widest, claim victory, and insisting everything’s going swimmingly

DEATHCARE WORKS!

Woman told to buy painkillers dies (The wonders of socialized medicine in the U.K.) uk.news.yahoo.com

A woman died from a heart attack hours after being sent home from hospital complaining of chest pains.

Debra Beavers, 39, was told to buy ibuprofen for the pain when she visited the Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife, last Sunday, according to the Daily Record newspaper.

Ms Beavers' family believe she may still be alive if the hospital had not been so "dismissive."

Her sister Darlene McConnell said Debra had twice contacted NHS 24 last weekend after initially suffering numbness, swelling and leg pains - then after chest pains.

An appointment was made at the hospital.

But Ms McConnell told the Record: "I spoke to her on Sunday morning and she said the pains were so bad she thought she was going to die.

"She went to the hospital as arranged at 1pm and was back out in minutes. The doctor told her to go home and take ibuprofen.

Though Dear Leader said
that his plan for DeathCare reform will not lead to the elimination of private health insurance, statements he made in 2007 and 2003tell a different story altogether.

Axe hangs over The (UK) Observer
(FT)

Guardian News and Media was on Sunday considering options for the future of the UK’s Observer, the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper, that could see the 218-year-old title close in its current form.

GNM has started work on a three-year strategic plan, including radical measures aimed at assuring the future of The Guardian, the group’s daily newspaper, a senior figure in the group said.

The plan is aimed not so much at addressing a fall in newspaper advertising revenues caused by the economic downturn but at surviving the effects of a longer-term shift by readers and advertisers to the internet.

On Friday, Guardian Media Group, the parent of GNM, which includes radio and regional newspaper interests, reported a pre-tax loss of £89.8m (€105m) for 2008-09, including £78m of exceptional charges.

Players Union Accuses 'NYT' Of Criminal Action in Steroid Reporting. (Editor and Publisher)

NEW YORK The Major League Baseball Players Association is accusing The New York Times of committing a crime in its attempt to identify players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

In a statement late Thursday, Players Association President Donald Fehr claims Times reporter Michael S. Schmidt broke the law when he sought to interview people with knowledge of a controversial 2003 list of some 100 players who tested positive. That list has been the subject of litigation and has been under court seal.

Fehr responded to Schmidt's Thursday story revealing that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were on the list. Last month, he previously had disclosed that former player Sammy Sosa was on the list.

"Today The New York Times, once again, reports what it asserts to be information contained in documents under court seal. And precisely for that reason, the Players Association will not, indeed cannot, comment on whether the information is accurate," the statement says.

"But there should be no mistake. The leaking of information under a court seal is a crime.

Journalism isn't dead, it's being reborn (oregonlive.com) (WHY CAN'T YOU IDIOTS EVER TELL THE TRUTH AND JUST SAY YOUR BIASED?)

This weekend, more than 100 reporters, bloggers, editors and broadcasters will gather in Portland for "a digital journalism camp." The meeting, which is modeled on recent events in Philadelphia and several other cities, has several sponsors, including The Oregonian and the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. But it's a truly grassroots event. It's billed as an attempt to envision the future of journalism.

Those who are claiming that "journalism is dead" are looking in the wrong places. Yes, the business model that supports journalism is in serious trouble, but while we worry about business models, the future of journalism is being discovered.

Journalism has lost its monopoly as the authoritative source of information. The standard of fact-based reporting has been corrupted, and even though there is much to praise in the interactive participatory online world, we must all work much harder to determine the truth of the information we're receiving. The challenge for news organizations -- be it The New York Times, The (Eugene) Register-Guard or The Siuslaw News -- is to remain or once again become an integral and indispensible part of the community conversation.

WaPo Gives Whiny Reporter 2000 Words to Complain About Free Speech (The American Prospect)

Usually newspapers are big defenders of free speech, but not the Washington Post. It gave Ian Shapira, one of its reporters, nearly 2000 words to complain that a website had ripped off his story.

The problem was not that the website had plagiarized the piece. Shapira acknowledged that his story was credited and even linked to by the website, which was a major source of readers for the original article.

However, Shapira is upset that the website may have made money off his work, because it sell ads based on viewership. In this case, the website piece based on Shapira's article drew 9,500 views. By way of response, Shapira wants "news organizations" to have the right to sue others that use their work without permission and profit from it.

ANIMAL FARM FOR REPORTERS?
So the MSM is pushing socialism, but reporters are complaining about not getting their fair share of the free enterprise system.

It seems that socialism is good for others, but not for them. Down with those greedy capitalists, but don't touch my money. This isn't about free speech. It is about money (greed as applied to others not working for WaPo).

I say, let them have their wish. If you don't read the MSM papers, you can't quote from them. Help speed their demise.

WTF? Too Poor to Pay (Guests must for meals of White House) (American Spectator)

Recently, high-profile visitors to the White House, including senior corporate executives, have found themselves paying for their own meals when sitting down with President Barack Obama, something unheard of in previous White Houses, according to former aides to President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton.

Thus far, there have been at least three instances -- the most recent coming last Friday -- where CEOs or other non-political guests were asked before arriving to the West Wing to provide credit card information so that their meals could be billed to them.

According to one source, the meals cost between $20 and $40. "That's not including tip," the current White House aide quipped.

According to another White House source, the Obama Administration in its first 200 days may have burned through much of its budgets for the Executive Residence and the White House's annual entertainment account.

We knew it would come to this when Oregon insisted on passing its assisted-suicide laws. It doesn’t take much for assisted suicide to go from a humane option to a cost-saving device, especially when the state pays for the medical care. One patient in Oregon got a letter that made this all too clear, when in the same letter rejecting her request for life-extending chemotherapy, Oregon offered her “physician-aid-in-dying”. Back door amnesty, Chicago-style
Examiner

With the help of unions, partisan politicians and pro-amnesty groups, the White House intends to push for back-door amnesty and bypass Congress altogether.

“It makes sense to do now what the administration can do… it doesn’t have to go through Congress. It (amnesty) doesn’t have to go through the toxic political process,” said Ana Avendano of the AFL-CIO at a recent press conference.

The AFL-CIO is one of the largest union representatives which include all the radio/broadcasters as well as the Hollywood crowd.

The Obama Administration is making a three pronged effort to gain amnesty without bringing the always hot-button immigration issue into the U.S. House of Representatives.

How The Government Kills ‘Clunkers’

Engine Disablement Procedures for the CARS Program THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT TO BE USED BY THE VEHICLE OWNER

Perform the following procedure to disable the vehicle engine.

1. Obtain solution of 40% sodium silicate/60% water. (The Sodium Silicate (SiO2/Na2O) must have a weight ratio of 3.0 or greater.)
2. Drain engine oil for environmentally appropriate disposal.
3. Install the oil drain plug.
4. Since the procedure is intended to render the engine inoperative, drive or move the vehicle to the desired area for disablement.
5. Pour enough solution in the engine through the oil fill for the oil pump to circulate the solution throughout the engine. Start by adding 2 quarts of the solution, which should be sufficient in most cases.
6. Replace the oil fill cap.
7. Start the engine.
8. Run engine at approximately 2000rpm (for safety reasons do not operate at high rpm) until the engine stops.
9. Allow the engine to cool for at least 1 hour.
10. With the battery at full charge or with auxiliary power to provide the power of a fully charged battery, attempt to start the engine.
11. If the engine will not operate at idle, the procedure is complete.
12. If the engine will operate at idle, repeat steps 7 through 11 until the engine will no longer idle.
13. Attach a label to the engine that legibly states the following:

This engine is from a vehicle that is part of the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS). It has significant internal damage caused by operating the engine with a sodium silicate solution (liquid glass) instead of oil.

When Nancy first went to her plastic surgeon for a face-lift. The surgeon told her about a new procedure called "The Knob," where a small knob is placed on the back of a woman's head and can be turned to tighten up her skin to produce the effect of a brand new face lift. Of course, Nancy wanted "The Knob." Over the course of the years, she tightened the knob and the effects were wonderful. Nancy remained young looking and vibrant. After fifteen years, she returned to the surgeon with two problems. "All of these years, everything has been working just fine. I've had to turn the knob many times and I've always loved the results. But now I've developed two annoying problems: "First, I have these terrible bags under my eyes and the knob won't get rid of them." The doctor looked at her closely and said, "Those aren't bags, those are your breasts." She sighed and said, "Well, I guess there's no point in asking about the goatee...."
