Kansas City Star announces a special Thanksgiving Day gift to subscribers: a price hike!

The Kansas City Star has decided to express gratitude to its loyal subscribers this Thanksgiving by jacking up the price of a paper that day from 75 cents to $2.00.

Not only will customers receive their Turkey Day edition of the Star loaded with traditional holiday advertisements, but they will also see an extra charge of $1.25 for the honor.

That will increase the price for the Thanksgiving paper to $2.00 instead of 75 cents.

"As a Star subscriber, you can look forward to our largest edition of the year on Thanksgiving Day," said a direct mail piece recently sent to subscribers... "Your newspaper will be filled with sales inserts from all your favorite retailers to kick off the holiday shopping season."

Below is the ad the Star sent to their loyal subscribers.

Thanks, Star!

After canceling my Sunday Only newspaper subscription, the paper called three times asking me to restart, saying:

"Don't you want to continue to get all the coupons and TV Guide?"

My response was:

"You want me to continue with your paper because of coupons and a TV Guide. NOT because of the content?
That tells me my decision is the correct one."

What a slap in the public's face. Some special gift. This is maddness. I'd cancel my subscription.

Why Not? This seems to work for Democrats. Get elected then hit everyone for more of their income!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Now, where's a bottomless pit when you need one?

What wasn't stated is that the extra $1.25 will be donated to the ACORN defense fund.

....or Rhonda Lokeman's annual West Bottom's New Years Eve Bash, Bail Bonds, Civil Rights Attorney, and Front End Repair Fund.

Do yourselves a favor, invest in Dumpsters. Thanks to the Star their recession proof.

I e-mailed the Star immediately upon learning of this scheme and told them not to deliver the "special" issue. They quickly replied with a promise to credit my account for the extra charge. Evidently they do realize that this is a shady deal.
