Newsweek admits Obama really has nothing important to say and is an empty suit (The Collins Report)
It’s taken Newsweek less than nine months, but it now admits Obama is an empty suit.
Howard Fineman’s liberal credentials are impeccable. He’s a reliable parrot of liberalism at the leftwing Newsweek. Howie’s the real liberal deal of liberal propaganda.
That’ why it was so “knock me down with a feather” surprising when Newsweek carried Fineman’s bombshell piece on how Barack Obama is turning out to be an empty suit.
Fineman and Newsweek realize “There is no there there,” when it comes to Barack Obama’s constant speeches.
It’s “Obama here”, “Obama there”, “Obama everywhere” and Americans have grown tired of his Big Brother act.
Michelle Obama: I know people say it was a sacrifice for me and Oprah to go to Copenhagen (Hot Air)
In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her “dear friend” and “chit-chat buddy” Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow’s visit by President Obama, is a “sacrifice” on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States.
“As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,” the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, “so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.”
When it comes to the Obama Administration’s priorities, getting even with Fox News is high on the list judging by this White House Blog Reality Check. Here’s an excerpt:
“RHETORIC: VALERIE JARRETT “WAS LAST SEEN WITH THE NEA.” Beck’s guest, FOX News contributor Pat Caddell, said, “[Obama] is going to go [to Copenhagen] with Valerie Jarrett who was last seen with the NEA pumping up their use of, you know, money.” [Transcript, Glenn Beck Show, 9/29/09]
REALITY: VALERIE JARRETT WAS NOT ON THE NEA CONFERENCE CALL. Valerie Jarrett was not a participant in the August 10, 2009 United We Serve/NEA conference call.”
Some of Obama’s staffers worked in the Clinton Administration so they’ve learned from two Presidential masters at word manipulation. Valerie Jarrett may not have been a participant in the NEA call but Buffy Wicks, a Deputy Director in the Jarrett-led Office of Public Engagement, certainly invoked her name and influence.
On page 11 of the NEA transcript, Buffy Wicks was introduced as the person who “spearheaded the [NEA] initiative from the beginning.”
Wicks not only had a prominent role in the NEA call but on page 13, she made a point of highlighting Jarrett’s leadership and assistance:
“We have about 20 folks and we work under Valerie Jarrett, she’s one of our fantastic leaders and Tina Chen [sic]. And so we’re really here at your disposal and we want to be helpful to you.”
Nice threading of the rhetorical needle, Obama staffers, but Chris Wallace is right. You really are the biggest bunch of crybabies.
Internet overtakes TV to become biggest ad sector in the UK (The Guardian)
IAB figures show that of the total £1.75bn spent on internet advertising, £1.05bn, or 60%, was spent on search advertising on websites including Google.
The UK has become the first major economy where advertisers spend more on internet advertising than on television advertising, with a record £1.75bn online spend in the first six months of the year.
The milestone marks a watershed for the embattled TV industry, the leading ad medium in the UK for almost half a century.
It has taken the internet little more than a decade to become the biggest advertising sector in the UK.
California's Weekly 'Sun Post' Folds, 'For Now' (Editor and Publisher)
CHICAGO The Sun Post, a free weekly delivered to 20,000 houseolds in Lathrop and Manteca, Calif., folded with last Friday's issue, Publisher Bob Matthews told readers in a Web posting this week.
But Matthews said the shuttering, while indefinite, is not forever.
"While this severe recession has brought many businesses to their knees, including ours, we're convinced it will pass, and when it does, our community newspaper company will rebound," Matthews wrote. "We're certain we'll be back, in some form or another, in Lathrop and Manteca."
The Sun Post shut down a little more than one month shy of the fourth anniversary of its founding 2005.
Minority Debt Holders Now Key to Keeping 'Florida Times-Union' Parent Morris Out of Bankruptcy (Editor and Publisher)
CHICAGO In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Morris Publishing Group has fleshed out the details of how it intends to restructure without going through bankruptcy court.
Late last week, Augusta, Ga.-based Morris, publisher of The Florida Times-Union and a dozen other dailies, announced the holders of 75% of $278.5 million of senior subordinated notes had agreed to exchange those notes for $100 million in new notes.
83% Say Congress Should Post Bills Online For All To Read Before Voting On Them (Rasmussen)
Eighty-three percent (83%) of U.S. voters say legislation should be posted online in final form and available for everyone to read before Congress votes on it. The only exception would be for extreme emergencies.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds only six percent (6%) of voters disagree with this approach while 10% are not sure.
Group Tied to Obama Urges Tax Increase (VAT on middle class and rich) WSJ
A liberal think tank with close ties to President Barack Obama says the administration and Congress should consider raising taxes on Americans to help close federal budget deficits, an opening salvo in what is likely to be a protracted debate on tax policy.
In a draft report, the Center for American Progress says the size of projected budget gaps requires considering options including tax increases as well as curbs on annual spending and entitlement programs supported by Democrats.
ACORN suspend programs in San Jose and East Bay (San Jose Mercury News)
San Jose's ACORN has closed its first-time homeowner program in the wake of the scandal that has also cost the national group its federal funding.
Allison Chadwick, a national spokeswoman for ACORN Housing, said all of its offices, including San Jose and the East Bay chapters, would suspend classes for first-time home buyers.
Did SEIU Throw ACORN Under the Bus? (biggovernment.com)
On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency (example #12,567 that government’s solution to any problem is more government.)
Appearing on a panel of self-appointed ‘consumer advocates’ was Anna Burger, political director for SEIU, a.k.a ACORN’s big brother.
Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) used his question time to ask Ms. Burger about ACORN. She drops a stunner, “SEIU has cut all ties to ACORN.” Watch the video below:
The Destruction of ACORN, the Strategy of Breitbart & Why We Must All Remain Vigilant [Bill Whittle]
In his latest video Bill Whittle compares the destruction of ACORN with one of the most brilliant military victories of all times: Hannibal's decimation of Romans in the Battle of Cannae.
Whittle says that the main war is not with ACORN but with the media. The Media is no longer "news media", because, as it was highlighted, again, in the ACORN affair, is not just biased and selective, but now engaged in suppressing the news. It's not free media anymore.
As Hannibal learned that fighting all powerful Rome is dangerous, Breitbart should also be worry - he'd drawn blood of the Rome! And should continue attack and keep moving, to not repeat the Hannibal's fate.
SEIU’s Texas Roadshow: Will They ‘Kill’ Your Company? (Big Government)
Yesterday, Rep. Mark Kirk offered a great illustration of the relationship between ACORN and SEIU.
A part of that chart is worthy of a further look: The relatively unknown story of how SEIU and ACORN took their act from Illinois Southward to mess with Texas and allegedly threatened to kill one man’s business because he wouldn’t toe the union line.
snip
But one man, Brent Southwell of Professional Janitorial Services, said it wasn’t his choice of whether his employees joined the union– it was his employees’ choice.
That’s when the union turned goonion. In addition to setting up the notorious inflatable union rat that unions love, SEIU took to contacting Southwell’s clients and protesting outside buildings.
The Wall Street Journal reported: Among other things, the union sent letters to Houston building owners, questioning whether Mr. Southwell’s workers were paid fairly and urging them to reconsider their business relationship with his company.
snip
But here’s what no one else has mentioned: The allegation contained a bombshell. The suit says a top SEIU organizer “has stated directly to PJS that SEIU wants ‘to kill’ PJS.”
Imagine a union threatening to come “kill” your company because it didn’t want you to have the choice to choose a secret ballot.
No wonder they’re spending so much time and money trying to pass the Employee Free Choice Act, which would effectively eliminate secret ballots altogether.
ACORN plot found, Oklahoma GOP says (The Daily Oklahoman)
A Republican state legislator released documents Tuesday which he says show the community-organizing group ACORN focused on helping Democrats in three legislative races in the November 2008 election and had developed a game plan to "take power” in Oklahoma within five years.
"They say they’re not political, but one of the subdirectories was called political action plans,” Reynolds said. "It was their political plans to take over key targeted races in Oklahoma City to show how powerful they are.”
Why is ACORN's chief organizer friendly with the Marxist anti-American governments of two South American countries?
Within ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis's storied rogues gallery of a rolodex may be found contact information for then-Bolivian ambassador Gustavo Guzman and for Sabine Kienzl, a professional propagandist employed by the Venezuelan embassy.
The listing for Guzman contains what appears to have been a direct office telephone number.
An ACORN insider I spoke with confirmed the authenticity of the rolodex which I have seen. Erick Erickson of the website RedState recently did an excellent job unveiling the rolodex.
Both Bolivia and Venezuela are now headed by radical, anti-American leftists friendly to Communist Cuba -- and officials of those hostile nations somehow ended up as business associates of Bertha Lewis.

I don't have proof that Chavez is funneling money to ACORN but it is not outside the realm of possibility, especially given ACORN's well-established criminal propensities and convoluted finances.
The despot sends the equivalent of millions of dollars to the U.S. every year as part of his public diplomacy campaign aimed at getting the American public to warm up to his government.
Venezuelan oil flows to Citizens Energy Corp., a nonprofit headed by former Rep. Joe Kennedy II (D-Mass.) that gives some of the home heating oil away and sells some at a discount to poor people.
-SNIP-
Other radicals with ties to the Chavez regime, particularly the strongman's Hollywood friends, are listed in the rolodex.
There's chavista Danny Glover, the renowned "Lethal Weapon" actor. Glover, an outspoken radical left-winger, is so tight with Chavez that the Venezuelan government has given him money to make movies.
With Gov. Palin's upcoming book rocketing to #1 in sales on both Amazon (hard to find on search) and Barnes & Noble, the New York Times has announced that it will not review the Governor's book because no one is interested in a washed-up Alaskan politician.
In a related article, the Times has also announced that the October 11th sunday Times Book Review magazine will be entirely dedicated to the Lion of the Senate, the late Ted Kennedy, and his new literary masterpiece. Contributing writers will include Jim Wright, Nancy Pelosi and Jacques Cousteau.
Comcast-GE Talks Heighten Intrigue Over Fate of NBCU (The Wall Street Journal)
Cable giant Comcast Corp. is weighing a potential deal involving General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal, according to people familiar with the matter, adding intrigue to the fate of the movie-and-television company.
Comcast has held talks with GE, which owns 80% of NBC Universal, according to the people. It isn't clear if the discussions will lead anywhere.
The future of NBC Universal has been the subject of speculation for weeks, as French conglomerate Vivendi SA mulls possibilities for its 20% stake. Each year, Vivendi has an option to force a sale of its stake to GE or to public investors.
snip
On Wednesday, the entertainment Web site The Wrap reported that Comcast was close to a deal to buy NBC Universal for $35 billion.
Harvey Weinstein: Hollywood Has the Best Moral Compass PATTERICO
The man who is organizing a petition for a guy who anally raped a 13-year-old weighs in on the astounding morals of Hollywood:
[Movie Mogul Harvey] Weinstein said that people generally misunderstand what happened to Polanski at sentencing.
He’s not convinced public opinion is running against the filmmaker and dismisses the categorization of Hollywood as amoral.
“Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion,” Weinstein said.
“Hollywood has the best moral compass.” Folks, I couldn’t make that up if you paid me.
Jack Dunphy nails it at NRO:
So it has come to this: Drugging and raping a 13-year-old is now a “so-called crime,” for which artistic talent, the approbation of peers, and the passage of time can coalesce to earn the rapist immunity from official sanction, if indeed any was called for in the first place.
