A Case Study: What does McClatchy do when the mistakes and failures pile up?

OK, here is your situation. You are the 2nd largest newspaper chain in the USA and your problems are mounting.  A recap of where you find yourself:

Your advertising revenues are falling. Your credibility is dropping. Your stock price has plummeted over the past 5 years. Your Baghdad bureau chief was heard whining about how hard her job is and how she often thinks of giving up. One of your Baghdad bureau reporters does a story about the plight of unemployed cemetery workers that gets widely panned across the Internet. Your Iraq war web site has tons of stories on Blackwater but no stories on accomplishments on the battlefield (see here and here and here and here and here and here and here.)

As the evidence of bad judgment and mistakes piles higher and higher, what do you do? Do you ramp up your efforts to inform readers about the successes of the troops? No, you hand out awards and trophies to everyone involved (see here and here and here.) And don't get me going about McClatchy bragging about their gender diversity success!

Heckuva job, McClatchy!
