McClatchy newspaper to cut positions, outsource work overseas

McClatchy's Raleigh News & Observer will cut as many as 16 jobs from its advertising department and begin sending some advertising work overseas. According to the company, the laid off employees will be eligible for severance packages including health benefits and pay, based on their length of time with the company.

McClatchy's Sacramento Bee announced several weeks ago it would outsource ad work to India. The Miami Herald has plans to outsource work to India, although it scaled back the amount of work to be outsourced. (Hat tip: John in Carolina.)
