The Wichita Eagle's kansas.com web site changed today. It looks like they want to subordinate kansas.com and rebrand more prominently with Wichita Eagle -- perhaps for marketing reasons?

I haven't had time to look around too much, but the main cosmetic difference is navigation along the top instead of down the left side. Is that *ad space* in the "ear" at the top of the home page?

The Q&A page delivers more admonitions about having to register and log in to use the comment section. However, I'm not sure what's different there. The log in requirement was already implemented earlier this year.

There is a video of Jon Stewart on his ‘The Daily Show’ where he analyzes the decline of newspapers with his typical razor-sharp wit.

Perhaps this article is just more of the same, but there is a cartoon of newspaper boats on stormy seas that is very good. We better enjoy cartoons while we can.

You all talk bad about McClatchy, but I want to say thank you Mr Pruitt for allowing me to reach my goal. Total today short selling MNI 1,011,837.80.

It has been a great two years. I knew I could count on you.

So it looks like the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's consolidation efforts with the Dallas Morning News will go farther than just the lifestyle section. Word has it that they will now split up the major sports beats geographically. DMN gets the Mavs, Cowboys and Stars, while the S-T gets the Rangers and Texas Motor Speedway. As far as the reporters involved, the rumor is that the Star-Telegram's Stars reporter has been offered a buyout.

here's some food for thought. Will newspapers charge more to get a quick boost in cash by charging for the Inauguration Day papers at their Sunday price rate instead of their daily price rate?

off topic somewhat...newspapers fold, big three auto makers fold, more massive lay offs, states (California) run out of unemployment $$$ and go bankrupt, unemployed can't pay their bills, utility bills, PG&E, Edison, AT&T etc. go bankrupt, MORE banks fold, infrastructure collapses, etc, where will it end? A total collapse? and how will the country rebuild? I sense another WW coming? Interesting reading "The Coming Economic Earthquake" written 15 years ago by the late Larry Burkett.
