More nuttiness in Anchorage

Nutty Pat Dougherty, editor of the Anchorage Daily News, released the full text of his email exchange with Sarah Palin. The email exchange confirms Dougherty, not Sarah Palin, is the fool.
.
But a bigger surprise comes in the comments section in the Editor's Blog -- you see lots of Trig Truther nutcases and Palin Haters and conspiracy theorists. I guess the fact that the ADN has become Ground Zero for anti-Palin nutcases shouldn't be a surprise, given the stance of the ADN.

I did find one comment from a reader that showed far more sanity than the editor's ridiculous explanation for investigating Palin conspiracy theories:
Wouldn't it be great for Alaska if the ADN actually reported unbiased news, kept its editorial opinion on the editorial pages, and maintained professional and open channels with state leaders? Instead we get an executive editor who apparently has some desire to antagonize the Governor and her staff, and who is apparently attempting to discourage any further direct communication by publishing the Governor's e-mail in full.
Not to mention the issue of the ADN stalking teenagers.

Doesn't anyone proofread this rag?

"explanation for investigation Palin conspiracy theories:"

You're so vigilant at nitpicking McClatchy stories that it would seem you would take more care.

Typos are part of the business, bud. Give it a rest.

The editor posted yet another entry on his blog after this one:

Quote:"It's only a "bizarre 'conspiracy theory' if you can demonstrate that it's untrue"

Whoops, error in this post - it's Pat Dougherty, not Jim Dougherty.

I cannot believe that anyone in serious journalism would write the garbage that I read in this article. More than that even, is the enormity of the misinformation that was employed by the liberal press against Gov. Palin. She had the birth of her child being questioned, while Joe Biden was AWOL somewhere. What I witnesses was beyond sick journalism, and it needs to be eradicated.
---------------------
Case in point -
Pat D writes 1: “…a story about why the Trig rumors, while baseless, are apparently so widespread and persistent”
(So, if nutcases want to push a story out of this phony editor, they just have to gin up the nutcases to write a bevy of e-mails of damaging gossip?) Would not die my ass!

2: “The Daily News has not independently pursued the question of Levi's educational status; [we have relied on the AP] to describe it accurately.”
(So, is another news source publishes a lie, any newspaper is free to print it, and blame the source, while staying innocent of lying?)

3: "The (trooper) affidavit refers to Johnston being under Secret Service protection while dealing drugs, but [that appears to be incorrect.]
(So, a story is blared as BIG news based on incorrect information, and this is business as usual?)

4: "Troopers later agreed that part of the [affidavit was wrong.]
(So, a whole baseless story was based on an erroneous affidavit. What good is an affidavit?)

A Sacred Heart University survey says only 20% of Americans believe or trust most news media.

Buh-bye stupid editor, taking that pre-bankruptcy buyout are ya?

I dunno who Jim Dougherty is, but he's not the editor of ADN. If only your were half as accurate as the folks you take potshots at...

Editor Pat Dougherty, OTOH, dealt with Gov. Palin's ridiculous whining with a great deal of maturity and professionalism. Kudos to him and the Anchorage Daily News for continuing in their tradition of responsible investigative journalism, especially in the face of this administration's hamhanded attempts to cow them. Booyah!

I see that you corrected your error regarding Pat (formerly Jim) Dougherty without making note that a correction occurred. Not exactly big on admitting fault, are you?

Typos corrected, thanks to Jim62sch and the Anonymous commenter who pointed them out.

By the way, the "professional journalist" Mr. Dougherty is now citing Media Matters (!) as a source on the history of Trig Trutherism.

LOL, Media Matters. I love those guys. Quoting one of their press releases and defending them as a legitimate source of information got my editor fired at the Houston Chronicle. Bet that doesn't happen at McClatchy.

Would that Houston Chronicle editor have been James Campbell?

Dougherty just published more e-mail from the Governor - I loved this quote from her:

"I do hope for nothing but the best for our local newspaper in these trying economic times that have hit your parent company."

What is wrong with the email the editor put out? I don't see where either Palin or Dougherty is at fault. Palin is questioning Dougherty and he gave her reasonable answers. The fact that they were trying to provide a definitive account about Trig's birth to shut the conspiracies theorists up seems quite fair. That they weren't able to get the information to do so shows why the theorists won't stop.

His question about Levi's status is fair.

I don't get what is supposed to be the problem here.

And - I don't understand the delight in the end of newspapers. Without any newspapers of records, who is going to be the source? All the bloggers? Bloggers do a great job of making sure the facts are correct or pointing out where there are errors - they do not do as good a job reporting news on their own.

Whether or not I trust any newspaper completely, I will be very sorry to see them go.

Surely you jest? You are talking about a name correction, and we are talking about serious erroneous information used to defame a political candidate. Sane people would know the difference, but unfortunately, deranged persons would not. McClatchy is a swamp to drain, if these comments represent critical thinking among the little dinos.

Anon at 7:01 - I don't delight in seeing the end of all newspapers, I delight in the end of newspapers that have declared open war on all people and ideologies that don't meet their agenda.

McClatchy fits that bill.

Jim62sch is correct, a newspaper that lies and repeats gossip in any form is not a newspaper of record. The question should be, why these sort of questions were allowed to become news? The paper used-up stories for political purposes, and then demanded that made-up stories be proven wrong. If you don’t see the dishonesty there, then you deserve the sick media you have now.

Kevin Gregory said...

Jim62sch -- that cracked me up about Sarah Palin being concerned about the health of the McClatchy company.

I think she realizes McClatchy won't be around to cover her next campaign.

I almost missed this other hilarious dig from Palin:

With such limited amounts of hard news in your recently streamlined paper, I believe it's more important than ever to make sure what you print is truthful and accurate.

How much do you know about Joe Biden's children?

I rest my case!

There is gossip out of Chicago that Obama has been a chain smoker for years. Don’t you think we should demand a lung x-ray to prove he doesn’t have lung cancer?

"Whether or not I trust any newspaper completely, I will be very sorry to see them go."

I do not know one young person that thinks that. Newspapers are a waste of our natural resources.

I don't believe the sick ADN represents the normal people of Alaska. A loony editor and a few whackjobs maybe. It is sad that so many people think Alaska has become a place for nutcases.

Two comments back on my comments about newspapers - it isn't just McClatchy that is in trouble - all newspapers are.

And as far as "young people" not being sad to see it go as a waste of resources..."they" do realize a newspaper is a newspaper whether it's online or print, right?

Re: "And as far as "young people" not being sad to see it go as a waste of resources..."they" do realize a newspaper is a newspaper whether it's online or print, right?"
--------------
Simply taking the dinosaur newspapers, and transferring them into electronic dinosaurs, does not a newspaper make. If a newspaper is online and no one reads it, is it still a newspaper? Who gets to be labeled a newspaper? The KC Red Scar? Taxpayers paying for recycling print newspapers still in their wrappers? Maybe only young people think clearly?
