This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

Would MNI ever print something like this? Canada prints what MNI won't.
Forcing Out Obama Canada Free Press 3/8/09 Alan Caruba
As this is being written, joblessness has hit a 25 year high. The Dow is plunging and neither Obama nor Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner can open their mouths without making it go lower.
There’s one sure sign of distress and distrust; few people want to join the top ranks of his administration.
Answer: MNI would never print anything like this, because it hits too close to home.
I wanted to thank Kevin Gregg for running this blog. I never thought I'd read comments about McClatchy like the ones I've read here. When I worked there, I thought I was the only one who saw it that way.
The only satisfaction about seeing our merry little band of truthtellers fall apart is that I'm not crazy and I'm not alone thinking they ran a rotten operation.
As another big fan of this blog, I always wondered what went through the a-political (for lack of a better term) employee's minds who see things from your neck of the woods.

May those who stay at The Bee after next week carry on without too much (over) work and those who leave land on solid ground. You are a talented lot of people. I hope this round of layoffs is the last. (written by a former Bee reporter who went out in the first round of buyouts in Dec. 06) 2. Jay Mather Says: March 8th, 2009 at 10:08 am
I agree with Pam except I have a feeling it’s not all over yet. The vote was an affirmation of the real character of the Bee journalists. Take a hit and save a few jobs. Total class. And, for the record I’ve never been or will be “anonymous.” I realize how fortunate I was to get a buyout in 2006 and can’t begin to understand the angst everyone is enduring now.
It's a wonder the Bee guild allowed those posts to remain with the censorship that rules that blog. The leadership at that shop is intolerant as hell to those who voice a different opinion.

The vote was a affirmation of the total lack of character of the Bee Guild, "Journalists". Shift the burden of layoffs to your peers in order to delay the inevitable for a few more checks. Total classlessness. In fact, reprehensible, lowlife scum would be more like it. What they proved was that they are the same bunch of SCABS who betrayed their brothers and sisters years ago. Some things never change.
I can't wait for your claims that you had no way of knowing when the next round comes and you do it again.
I don't know about SCABS, but they're leadership has been an complete failure. You're better off being non-union than kow-towing to the incompetents who run that guild.
That bunch has a long sorted history of betraying their own. They're probably the most reviled group of people among real union members in the entire country. They are a Union of SCABS who have a history of throwing their peers to the wolves, while they prance merrily across the picket lines of others, all the while knowing that they could have made a difference.
In fact, real unions don't even recognize them as a union. They make note of their being a, "guild" and insist they not be related.
I can't imagine why you would make a statement like that...well yes I can. You work for a smoke and mirrors propaganda shop. You have no clue that democrats did as much if not more to wreck unions than Republicans did. Look who the politicians were that pushed and passed, "Right to Work" laws that destroyed them. Majority Democrats because they thought it would buy them votes.
Follow this link (MNI Stock) and go to the "Officers & Directors" section in bottm RHC. When you scroll over the titles of the various "VP"s of everything, click the link that appears for Bio & Compenstation. Seems to me they could all get by on a few bucks less and save a few jobs. This is nauseating. http://www.google.com/finance?client=ob&q=NYSE:MNI
I think you will hear more about what goes on in the McClatchy newsrooms as more and more employees leave and experience life outside the echo chamber.
One post described conservatives (which does not describe me either) in the newsroom as sitting and fuming.I understand there were some dust-ups over coverage of Kevin Johnson's campaign, but that's only hearsay on my part. I did hear many comments about hicks, hillbillies, yahoos, rubes and white trash from editors as well as just general contempt for the workin' man and woman in this area. White, that is. that's the only kind of racism allowed at McClatchy. If you hate white, you're all right.
Anon 7:12 Like MNI bias, that they say doesn’t exist, your post ads confirmatory “blush” to what I always suspected.
But what’s nice about what’s left of capitalism, is the ability to fund worthwhile projects, which MNI, like the propaganda from the NY Slimes, is better left to others to purchase.
I just wonder how the, “white trash” that still work for MNI must feel, watching the scourge fully metastasize through what once was a real company?

Kind of ironic to see all these pro-strong-union comments on a blog run by a guy whose political predilection does not support strong unions.
