-Details of Threat to Close Globe Emerge-
"Perhaps the Globe's thirteen (count them, thirteen) unions could buy the paper and see what it's like."
----------
The Globe is so far out in left field it is also called, ‘The Kennedy Times’ - (Featuring ‘selected’ family news) Liberal doesn’t begin to describe the Globe, ‘You Know.’

“Will you be able to get your news straight and not in an ideological fog of blogs?”

One sentence shoots down the whole article. Like we were getting the news straight, and not in an ideological fog from the MSM. Get real, Kinsley!

-Life After Newspapers-
The Washington Post
By Michael Kinsley
Excerpts:

Few industries in this country have been as coddled as newspapers.

Until very recently, most newspapers were monopolies, with a special antitrust exemption to help them stay that way.

The Constitution itself protects the newspaper industry's business from government interference, and the Supreme Court says that includes almost total immunity from lawsuits over its mistakes, like the lawsuits that plague other industries.

@5:52am

Hmmm...Maybe there are many Kevin Gregory's in the world?

But 2 DUI's? I wonder if we can use the FOIA to find out more info, i.e. photos (mug shots), dash cam, etc.

The reason the DMN isn't buying/absorbing/taking over the Star-Tele is that its financial shape ain't so great, either.

Don't think we'll see a Fort Worth Morning News.

Good question, Google ‘poaches’ content and then makes the money from ads, and the newspaper that reported the news, gets what?
--
“Rupert Murdoch threw down the gauntlet to Google Thursday, accusing the search giant of poaching content it doesn’t own and urging media outlets to fight back. “Should we be allowing Google to steal all our copyrights?”

“With the Minneapolis Star Tribune in bankruptcy, employees will launch a website Monday, and plans to hand out paper hats and scorecards at the Twins’ home opener.”

-Staff at the Minneapolis Star Tribune have a new message for their readers: "It's your paper and we need your help to save it."

http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=587906&catid=2
--------------
The first comments about the employee’s plan to save the paper were somewhat dismissive, but at least they are trying, and deserve credit for that, IMO.

“Globe's thirteen (count them, thirteen) unions”
---
The unions helped elect the 'ONE’ that disses the USA while on foreign soil. That surely is worth a government bailout!

Fannin, Editor of KC Star, on the front page: We Are Not Dying (posted on bottomlinecom.com)

Readers (comment section) are pointing out the inconsistencies in Fannin's statement.

Bottom Line Communications gives us more honest news about KC daily, than the Red Star’s ‘Leer & Sneer’ sections do in a week. Who needs them? The Red Star needs to honest-up or get the hell out of KC. It may be too late already, Zieman seems determined to stay on his present failed course of action.

Editor: "Miami Herald isn't in danger of disappearing"

Miami Herald
"The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald are strong, tough, dedicated institutions that are not in danger of disappearing," writes Miami Herald editor Anders Gyllenhaal. "But enough questions have surfaced -- some based on fact, many fed by rumor --
http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45
-----
So you poll a few pro-Castro comrades, and decide the Herald MUST be saved to promote propaganda. Nothing new there.

Anonymous said...

What about that Communist propaganda?
Someone obviously took over the Miami Herald presses to publish pro-Castro propaganda. An immediate investigation is warranted. Who brought this information to the MH? Who okayed the use of the material? Why was it pulled down so fast? Were the presses commandeered by an inside person? Why the cover-up? Now it seems the MH wants us to believe the articles were just so not important. When the press doesn’t do its job in its own house, this is what you get, and they wonder why no one believes a word they print?

Anyone who says that the FWDST is in bad financial shape has no idea what they are talking about. I for one am sick and tired of so many uneducated people on here blaming liberals, commies, etc... It gets old and is just stupid.

McClatchy is drowing and needs to go into bankruptcy. Pruitt needs to be fired. It makes no sense to do a blanket 12% employee reduction when some of the papers are doing well, like the Star Telegram.

The problem is that profits from the few papers making money are going up the chain to corporate.

The death of newspapers are not because of the Internet. The death of newspapers began when they became corporations and put profits in front of real news.

AP announces further "significant" rate reductions

Associated Press release
AP's pricing changes will bring a further $35 million in rate assessment reductions for 2010, while providing the option of a "Limited" service for papers with minimal world and national coverage needs. Also, AP says it will develop a system to track content distributed online to determine if it is being legally used.
----
The AP ought to develop a system for printing the truth instead of biased garbage.

Dream on, the Ostrich Media is gonna make a comeback any day now. You sure can’t fix the problem you won’t admit exists. That’s what makes the view of the death spiral so interesting.

Head in the sand one says, “I for one am sick and tired of so many uneducated people on here blaming liberals, commies, etc... It gets old and is just stupid.”

Man who makes nothing but make overzelous comments about liberalism and communism being the reason for the demise of newspapers only speaks like that because he has no facts.

The FWST is very profitable. Sales reps are still making $80K per year despite the pay cuts.

Give us facts. This is not speech class. But then again, you are good at making statements with no quantitative data to back them up.

Dreamer says, “..demise of newspapers only speaks like that because he has no facts.”
~~~~
And, just where do you get your facts? The liberal in-the-tank media? Maybe a biased study? Maybe a phony poll? Maybe a failed newspaper publisher? Maybe from Gary Pruitt? Listening to them has taken you far down primrose lane, and the thorns are pricking you until you bleed already. ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’ that enjoyable is it?
You are once again missing the point. Please put down your Thesaurus.
FSWT is profitable. Fact
Sales reps are still making over $80K. Fact.
District level retail is up year over year. Fact.
Your rants... sound like a jealous, washed up newsroom employee.
All you CONSERVATIVES who make nothing but overzelous comments about liberalism and communism being the reason for the demise of newspapers.....would you please raise your hand if you have been pink slipped from your newspaper job. Come on now...I'm not seeing any hands. Oops...there are none you say. I can see clearly now.
...Thank you very for your participation. Now back to more McClatchy reductions in personnel.
The humorous teleprompter gives us the skinny on the Globe.
TOTUS Blog:
As Big Guy pointed out, this ignorance issue is not helping us. It's not good that so many people aren't reading what we want them to read in the Globe, like how bad the economy is, and how bad the economy has gotten from the last time we mentioned how bad economy is. But now that the [Obama Administration is going to buy the Globe,] we can [mandate that all Americans read the paper,] or have it read to them, preferably [by a government reader.] Who says taxpayers aren't going to get their money's worth?
What can I say the Modesto sorry ass Bee has always been way way way back in the times. The first day I walked in that old ass place I was blown away by the lack of technology and not even close to other papers in the nation. You will be the first to shut down between your suck ass 3 bee papers. Your sorry ass publisher will do that for you.
Ironic, 6:47.
April 24 is the big termination date in Miami.
Anonymous said...
7:17 PM I've followed failing companies for many years and among the most telling signs that the company's failure is imminent is when they stop reporting their circumstances except when required by law. Then they stop allowing questions all together. Following that they will begin to cancel, delay or give the wrong starting time for conference calls.
It is no coincidence that your termination date is the day following their announcement. It is by design in order to spread cuts out over multiple quarters to make them appear smaller than they are.
Once a company gets to this point of manipulation it is all consuming and the rest of the business is long forgotten.
It was great to see that The Sun News had a cluster f^%$ on its' first Sunday of outsourcing.There were Pre-run bundles everywhere, circulation director smoking like a chimney pacing the back dock. nobody could figure out how to get the papers out to the customers. It took Charleston 16hrs to put together a pre-pack that normally took 5. The front pages didn't get up there until 5am, usually done by 2:30. and they were 3000 papers short. So 3000 paid home delivery subscribers didn't get papers. Of course one route that didn't get papers was the one the publisher lives on. I heard a bunch of her neighbors that know who she is knocked on her door to complain, instead of calling Pakistan. All week long the papers got out on average 2.5hrs later than when they were done in-house. I hope for more of the same. Thanks P.J. Consistency of your deadlines, you got that right. Late every day.
