This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

NY Times Co. 1Q losses worsen as ad sales plunge 27 pct
The New York Times Co. says its first-quarter losses worsened amid a dramatic downturn in advertising revenue at its newspapers.
The setback announced Tuesday was even worse than pessimistic analysts had anticipated.
The publisher of The New York Times and The Boston Globe lost $74.5 million, or 52 cents per share, in the first quarter. That compared with a loss of $335,000 at the same time last year. That was break-even on a per-share basis.
WSJ "America's Newest Profession: Bloggers for Hire"

The NYT just won all those Phew-litzers too. Maybe that little bit of fraudulent political rewarding will bring them right back to the top. Bwhahahahaha

The mock front page designed for the 31 News & Observer staffers who are leaving the paper today says the RMS McClatchy -- one of the largest newspaper steamships in the world -- "was welded together from the hulls of several old steamships, including a leaky tub called the RMS Knight Ridder." Oh horrors, the Pru will lose his personal touch with his source of music inspiration. Who knows what music will accompany his next speech? He seems to favor old guys, but what a decision? His head must be bursting with anxiety. === -Rolling Stone exits San Francisco, where it was founded 42 years ago-
San Francisco Chronicle "There wasn't enough business to justify having a full-time office in San Francisco," says a Rolling Stone spokesman. An ad sale rep and two Men's Journal employees are packing up. The last SF editorial bureau was closed in the early 1980s.
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Newspaper publisher McClatchy Co. said Monday it's been warned that it could be delisted from the New York Stock Exchange unless it can lift its market capitalization to [$75] million within 18 months.
Today the Market Cap: [$45.78M]
Does that literally mean raising the difference between these two numbers? That doesn't sound like all that much, if it does.

Human resources regionalization in the Carolinas. CO's HR director is leaving...
@12:33
Yes this was discussed elsewhere on the blog, but there are 2 requirements for listing.
1. Market cap of $75m
2. $1 average daily value (30 days)
McClatchy has until Dec 2009 to achieve #2 and until Dec 2010 to achieve #1.
Thus solving #2 will easily put us over #1.
