Another excellent blog

Just came across another center-right blog, The Kansas Progress. The publishers say the blog is "dedicated to limited government in the great state of Kansas." It's definitely worth a look.

I don't know Tim Andersen but I have had occasion to chat with Ben Hodge. Sharp wit and a clear mind. It is a pleasure to read his words.

Ben Hodge is a former State Rep and also Trustee of Johnson County Community College. As a trustee Hodge called the current college president for violations of the state's open meetings/open records statutes. So how did The Star and The Sun treat this reformer when he ran for re-election? Both of our handmaidens to corruption gave him a thumbs down in favor of establishment candidates that are willing to go along to get along.

For those who think that Hodge is just being disagreeable, this is an institution where the main building is named for former President, Charles "Groper" Carlsen, a man who resigned in disgrace after the student newspaper (not The Star and not The Sun) discovered that influential members of the Trustees had covered up allegations of Carlsen's sexual misconduct with staff for years.

In response to the allegations the Trustees immediately spent over $50000 for "PR" work allegedly done by one of Carlsen's cronies in an anti-evangelical hate-group and then spent a couple of hundred thousand on a report on the accusations that Carlsen requested.

About the only thing noteworthy to come out of the report was the fact that for a couple of decades Carlsen and another local political hack, Dick Bond had personally chosen the "Johnson COuntian of the Year 'Award'". Among the recipients chosen by Bond and Carlsen were Bond, Carlsen, the current publisher of The Sun, Steve Rose and numerous members of the aforementioned hate group.

Shortly after Carlsen resigned several recipients of the Johnson Countian of the Year "Award", including Rose signed a letter of support for Groper in an attempt to rehabilitate him. He has since been appointed to the local Arts Council where one suspects nudes will be a popular choice for acquisition.
