Chrostowski's new title will be "assistant managing editor."
Why doesn't Chrostowski have the same title as Lester?
Just last month. the Star was advertising for a business editor. The Star's ad said it was looking for an individual who:
- Has a vision for covering the biggest story in the world right now but can bring those economic issues back home to Kansas City.
- Understands, embraces and has ideas for multi-platform business products.
- Can work copy and push stories to A-1 while developing a strategy for daily business centerpieces.
- Brings energy and creativity to meetings and to problem-solving.
- Works well with his staff and also with other newsroom departments.
The Star article on Chrostowski seems to emphasize the new guy doesn't have the same title as Chris Lester. Hmmm.

They can call him whatever they want. All that really matters to me is that none of my friends and colleagues were stupid enough to apply for the job.
The downside is though, no one at the KC Star has more than a rudimentary clue about business or economics beyond their own demise in progress.
So it begs the question ... who, then, becomes news editor? Everyone knew they would have to shuffle around anyone who's still there. I can see the copy desk getting smaller and smaller.
I forgot to mention that my weekly community newspaper was thicker than the Sunday KC Star ... even my other family members noticed it!
Does anyone remaining at the Red Star think they are putting out a decent print newspaper? Right now a job is a job, but I cannot imagine being an inside witness to the total destruction of a once proud and important profession.
They may be getting to the point, if they haven't already, where they just slap stuff on a page and send it off. It's sad.

You have to keep in mind that the bottom scrapings that they kept believe that they are the key to the solution.
It never occurs to them the real reason that they managed to slip through the cracks.
