The Kansas City Star -- called by publisher Mark Zieman "the area's preeminent source for news" -- is publishing celebrity mugshots on the front page of its web site.
Tony Botello points out the Star has now joined The Smoking Gun in the celebrity mugshot business -- only The Smoking Gun started a decade earlier.
This is just the latest effort by the Star to boost Internet traffic. Previous attempts by the Star: racy photos from "Men's magazine" Maxim were published on the Star's web site in May. In April, the Star posted a "retrospective" photo gallery of Britney Spears.
Are Page 3 girls next?
By the way, Tony Botello noticed the Star didn't print the mugshot of local celebrity Rhonda "three tire" Lokeman, former Star columnist who happens to be married to the Star's publisher. (Click here to see her mugshot).

It's not just the Star. It's a McClatchy-wide thing. Somebody must still be employed in the McClatchy online office.
10:37 -- I just checked SacBee.com and didn't see it.
Now you have to admit the woman who is wearing the cow costume is pretty darn funny.
MW -- keep investigating. You only have about 30 more Web sites to check out.

Saw it on Smoking Gun many months ago. The only real journalist that the Star still has, James Hart (CrimeScene KC) has linked to Smoking Gun for the past year or two.
They are just trying to copy his content because he is the only successful blogger that they have.
The Red Star has hit rock bottom. They need to go away, NOW!
+1 on James Hart. Excellent blogger and fair to all sides.
